Abstract

Carpet-sweepers.-Blades with cutting-edges are introduced between the bristles of the rotary brush to cut or break fibres or hairs adhering thereto. The blades are used preferably in conjunction with collecting-combs, which remove the cut hairs and other matter loosely adhering to the brush. Figs. 1 and 6 show one construction, in which a curved metal plate having comb edges e is formed with stamped - up cutting-blades D. This appliance is mounted on the block F<1> on the underside of the top of the casing. In a modified arrangement, the appliance is supported by laterally-extending arms attached to the part J of the casing. In this latter arrangement, the appliance may be mounted in slots on the arms, or be hinged thereto, so that it will remain in contact with the brush when this has decreased in size through wear. Fig. 5 shows' a plate mounted on the inner edge of a dust-pan. In some cases, metal blades may be attached to a wooden block or base.
