In a press for extracting grease &c. from wool, carcases, offal, &c. in which the material may be treated with steam while being compressed, the material is placed in a casing A hermetically closed by a door B, having a flange B<2> fitting against a packing D, and is compressed by a platen G operated by a screw H passing through a nut J which is rotated by a worm on a shaft M passing to the outside of the casing. The material rests on a grid F supported by ribs E forming cells which communicate with an outlet E<3>. Steam is injected through a pipe Q.
