Abstract

24,112. Porter, S. W., and Spencer & Co. Oct. 24. Fixed bucket conveyers and elevators; flat endless belt conveyers; carriers and receptacles, attaching to belts and chains; guiding endless belts and chains.-Conveyers and elevators, particularly designed for dealing with mail bags, comprise an endless band attached to the links of a roller chain which also carries a series of buckets, the chains being so guided that the baggage is first conveyed horizontally, then elevated, and then again conveyed horizontally. Rollers e mounted on each pivot pin of the endless chains d are guided in curved channels g formed by pairs of angle-iron rails j. The chains d are connected to each other by cross-bars i forming a support for attaching the sections of the band. Between each pair of cross-bars i is arranged a wider cross-bar l, to which the buckets f are secured. The band and the chains are guided at each end of the run by pulleys a, b, one of which is driven. The baggage may be led to the conveyer through a hopper, or may be deposited thereon by a feed-roller k from an auxiliary conveyer.
