Abstract

Pneumatic springs. - Relates to cushioning- devices in which vacuum chambers are arranged between a pair of frames, and are expanded as the frames move apart under a load, and consists in employing as the vacuum chambers flat metal casings which offer a large surface to the external atmospheric pressure. In the form shown in vertical section in Fig. 1 as applied to a seat, the seat u is connected by bolts g rouhd its edges to a plate e, and a base-plate b is connected by similar bolts f to a plate d, the bolts y, f passing slidably through holes in the plates d, c respectively. Between these plates are bolted exhausted flat cylinders c which oppose the separation of the plates as the seat a is depressed. An application of the device to cycle saddles is referred to.
