Abstract

18,448. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Aug. 13. Residual gases.-A tungsten-filament lamp contains nitrogen or other gas at a suitably proportioned pressure between 0À2 and 50 mm. of mercury, this gas gradually disappearing during the use of the lamp, so that it withdraws less heat from the filament as this becomes old. The initial pressure in bulbs of the usual size is about 10 mm. per sq. cm. of filamentsurface. The deposit in the bulb is light brown.
