Abstract

1088. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Jan. 22. High vacua in lamp bulbs, obtaining. - During the evacuation of lamp bulbs &c. composed of glass of relatively high melting-point, they are heated first to a temperature near the point of deformation, and afterwards to a considerably lower temperature. With a sodium magnesium boro-silicate glass known as low expansion glass, the first temperature is from 550 to 600‹ C., and the second from 400 to 500‹C.
