Abstract

18,371. Jardine, J.L., and Nelson, T. A. Aug. 13. Pulp, preparation of.-Bamboo is crushed and treated in a digester with a solution of bisulphite formed from a base such as magnesia which yields a soluble sulphite, and the free gases liberated by digestion are allowed to escape through a small exbaust pipe into a cooling-coil and absorption apparatus. Undue excess of acid in the digester is thus avoided. The digester is heated by steam and the temperature determined by the steam pressure. The pulp so obtained may be bleached to full white with bleaching-powder.
