Tramcars ; steps ; floors ; ingress and egress of passengers, controlling.-Relates chiefly to arrangements of stairways for double-deck tramcars having the floor depressed between the axle-trucks and a central vestibule with entrance doorways at one or both sides of the car. The stairways may be disposed near the doorways or at the ends of the car. Figs. 1 and 2 (lower deck) show two centrally arranged stairways, the lower flights of which may, however, be combined into one broad flight. Fig. 8 shows a car having on the upper deck longitudinal benches c, the floor beneath which is cut away to give head room in the lower saloon in which the seats are arranged along the sides and ends. Each stairway consists of a single flight in this case. Fig. 11 (lower deck) shows stairways at each end of the car, each comprising a lower flight a rising from the low level floor and an upper flight b arranged over the axle-truck.
