13,346. Sweet, A. June 9. Locks, revolving-barrel.-The lock comprises a fixed housing A on which are concentrically mounted three cylinders D<1>, B<1>, C, one within the other. In the housing A are a series of gravity-actuated slides D<9>, the ends D<7>, D<8> of which, passing through slots D<2>, D<3> in the cylinder D', are adapted to enter notches D", D<12> in the cylinder B<1> and normally lock this against rotation. The key, when inserted in the lock, enters a slot D in the cylinder C, and when rotated to set the slides D<9>, turns the cylinder C. The cylinder C is connected by a stud and slot with the cylinder B<1>, which is adapted to actuate the bolt by means of an eccentric, cog-wheel, &c. After the key has been given a quarter-turn, the slides are set to release the cylinder B', and a further rotation causes the cylinder B<1> to operate the bolt. The second cylinder D<1> is provided for the purpose of preventing picking, the cylinder serving to jam the slides should pressure be applied to the bolt. In another construction, the cylinder D<1> is dispensed with, and horizontal slides D<8>, Fig. 10, are employed in the housing A. The slides are under the control of springs located in slots a in the slides. Turn-bolt locks; padlocks.-In one form, the bolt is mounted directly on the cylinder B<1> and turns therewith, for use on drawers &c. In Fig. 1 is shown a padlock of the ring-shackle type in which a bolt E mounted directly on the cylinder B' of the lock mechanism is adapted to lock the shackle by engaging in the gap b.
