Abstract
11,918. Goodwin, E. Aug. 8. Door holders.-Relates to devices for holding doors, casements, &c. in various open positions of the kind in which the operation of the door or like handle acts through intermediate linkage to effect the engagement of a catch with a quadrant. The quadrant 3, of a radius about half the width of the door, is notched on its top and bottom edges to enable it to be used for doors hinged at the right or left hand side, and is fixed to the frame above the door. The notches 2 are engaged by a finger 4 on a pivoted bar 1 pivotally connected to a vertically sliding rod 5 which is lifted by a projection 10 on the door handle 11. In another form, the rod is directly lifted by the pivoted latch of a door, and in a further form, the lower end of the rod 5 is pivoted to one arm of a bell-crank lever on the door, the other arm of the bell crank being adapted to be operated by an extension on the loose bolt of the door. The finger 4 may be kept permanently disengaged from the quadrant by the engagement of a sliding catch 9 with a notch in the rod 5.
