Abstract
10,305. Biddlecombe, F. G. L. May 1. Vaporizers, external. -In a process for the production of combustible gas from liquid fuel by partial combustion, the oil is sprayed into a chamber A from a nozzle B on the top of a fuel pipe E by means of air which is drawn in from a passage J by the suction of the engine. The mixture of oil and air is preferably given a whirling motion on admission to the chamber A so that the spray at some distance from the nozzle practically fills the area of the chamber, and a secondary air supply is admitted through holes D covered by a channelled ring M. The combustible mixture is ignited by a sparking-plug L or by other suitable means not involving the use of spirit or preliminary heating and is conveyed by an outlet pipe C to the engine. In a modification, two or more nozzles are employed, a small nozzle serving for starting purposes, also the chamber A may be provided with a jacket forming a space surrounding the chamber and through which the gas generated may pass so as to preserve a constant temperature in the apparatus and heat the oil before it is sprayed into the chamber A.
