Telephonic relays.-The currents to be amplified are passed through a wire 1, stretched in a magnetic field N S, and adapted (1) to vary the resistance of a microphonic contact, or (2) to produce varying contractions in a liquid jet and consequent variations in the resistance of a circuit closed through the jet, or (3) to produce changes in the cross-sectional area of a tube 5 through which a liquid flows and consequent variations in the resistance of the circuit 9, 10 including that part of the liquid. The secondary of the induction coil 2, traversed by the currents from the microphone 4, is of low resistance.
