Abstract

9031. Ielfield, F. C. April 17. Postmarking - m a - chines; driving printing-machines; tripping- arrangements. - In a postmarking - machine, the impression roller 50 is carried by an eccentrically-mounted spindle 51 having an arm 53 projected into the letter path, so that when a letter is passed through the machine by suitable feeding - devices the spindle 51 is turned to move the roller 50 towards the printing-roller 44. The bearings 47, 80, for the printing- wheel shaft, the beltpulley shaft 40, and the hand driving-shaft 79 are detachably fixed, so as to be renewable when worn, to the table 1 which is mounted on pivots 3 and held in its working position by a catch 6, 7, and in its tilted position by a stay 8, 9. The driving-motor 88 is mounted on a platform 89 carried by a vertically-adjustable stem 90, so that the gear-wheel 86 on the motor may be brought into or out of engagement with the machine gearing. The letters 10 are fed from a pile by a belt 15 having a projecting rib 19 thereon, and passing around a driving- pulley 16 and a yieldingly-mounted guide pulley 17. A second yieldingly - mounted roller 25 presses the separated letter against an inclined rubber stop-piece 21, which has a gap for the rib on the belt 15 and prevents the passage of more than one letter at a time to a front stop 66 which is actuated by a cam 70, and prevents the letter from passing to the printing position except at the right moment. The spindle 51 of the impression roller is normally turned by a spring into such a position that the lever 53 projects across the letter path, and steps regulate the movement of the spindle. The eccentric portion of the spindle 51 is mounted in a yieldingly spring-pressed rock lever 71, Fig. 4.
