448. Godfrey, A. Jan. 7. Pile tables and supports for sheet feeds; sheetseparators.-Paper-feeding mechanism whereby single sheets of paper are successively removed from the base of a column of paper comprises a rocking frame 15 pivoted upon the driving-shaft 9 and carrying friction feed-rollers 21, 22, 23 driven continuously by means of a chain and sprocket-wheel from the driving-shaft. The frame 15 is intermittently rocked by means of levers 33, 34 pivoted at 35 and provided with rollers 36 engaging cams 11, 12 on the driving- shaft. The outer ends of the levers 33, 34 engage ball thrust-bearings 38, 39 on the shaft carrying the feed-rollers 21, 22, 23. Pins 32 on projecting arms of the cross-bar 17 of the rocking frame 15 prevent more than one sheet from being fed at a time. An auxiliary spring or weight pressed feed-roller 54 may be provided in contact with the feed-rollers 21, 22, 23. The fed sheet is forced by the feed-rollers against a fixed guide 28 and is laid on an auxiliary feeding-device such as travelling tapes by means of flyers 47 operated from a cam 40 on the driving-shaft 9 by means of a bell-crank lever 42 and a link 44. The cams 11, 12 are mounted on sleeves which may be adjusted on the shaft 9 to allow the timing and duration of contact of the feed-rollers to be altered. A sliding clutch 50 connected to the shaft 9 by means of a feather key may be thrown out of engagement with the sleeve clutch 52 on the driving spurwheel 8 when it is desired to disconnect the feeding-mechanism, and the clutch may be operated either by hand or automatically by any known ' throw-out ' mechanism controlled by the machine to which the sheets are fed.
