Carbon. - A rotary drum for drying, re vivifying and decarbonizing bone-black, has its lifting-blades a, a<1> &c. formed with slits c, c<1> near the edges, whereby the material is showered more evenly through the drum. The passage of the material may be facilitated by the use of a pivoted hammer k<1>, by cams i on the circumference of the drum. The char is discharged through doors d in the rim formed at the end of the drum.
