347,911. Rotary - drying apparatus. SACHTLEBEN AKT.-GES. FœR BERGBAU UND CHEMISCHE INDUSTRIE, Homberg, Niederrhein, Germany. May 21, 1930, No. 15691. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1929. [Class 34 (ii).] Relates to the drying of moist substances such as lithopone, which are liable to decomposition or oxidation at high temperatures, in slightly inclined rotary drums with indirect heating in like current, and direct heating in counter current. The drum, which rotates within a casing E through which heating gases flow in cocurrent, consists of a forward part F, conical next the feed G, and provided with internal spirals g, and a rear part composed of circularly arranged tubes H through which gases at from 100-150‹ C. are passed in counter-current to the material. A central tube K, through which no material passes, projects into the part F and delivers gases at 600‹ C. on to the moist material. The conical formation of the part F assists in causing any dust formed and carried along by the gases to be deposited on the moist material. Heat still contained in the indirect heating gases when drawn off may be transmitted to the direct drying gases.
