[Cognate Application, 18,788/13.] Ventilating-shaft tops.-Two or more ventilators or shaft-tops, of the kind in which the shaft has a bent end surrounded by a larger tube through which air passes to induce up-draught, are.provided with a common inlet to the surrounding tubes into which wind may be directed or to which air maybe supplied by a fan or the like. As shown in Fig. 1, the shaft tops b are surrounded by tubes a having a common inlet d. When mounted on a vehicle or ship, a short tube e with flared ends f and a disk valve h sliding on a spindle g, as described in Specification 25,429/12, may supply air to the inlet d when the vehicle &c. is moving. An adjustable or wind-directed cowl may alternatively be provided on the inlet d. Air may be supplied to the inlet d by a fan or the like, and when the shaft-tops are widely separated, pipes may connect the common inlet with the tubes a. Two or more shaft-tops may be enclosed by one tube, and filling-pieces may be provided or the tube may be so shaped that there is only a small space round the end of each shaft. Two or more shafts may unite and have a common bent end. When ventilating cotton or like mills, the tubes a may be led to boxes for collecting the " fly " or the like.
