Description
I w. BELL.
VENTILATING APPARATUS,
APPLICATION FILED MAY 12. 1917.
Patented Apr. 30, 1918.
WILLIAM BELL, or LONDON, ENGLAND.
VENTILATING' APPARATUS.
nseam.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM BELL, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 88 Norman road, Greenwich, London, England, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ventilating Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the ventilation of structures and is especially applicable to the'ventilation of sewers.
According to this invention the structure to be ventilated is provided with an uptake shaft and an intake haft. The top of the uptake shaft consists of two co-axial tubes and a trough surrounds the lower end of the inner tube. On the upper ends of the tubes are flanges and the spaces between the flanges are preferably divided into four parts by partitions which extend the length of the inner tube. The top of the intake shaft consists of two eo-axial tubes, the outer of which may be in one piecewith the intake shaft and flanges on the upper ends of the tubes. Partitions divide the spaces between the flanges preferably into four parts and extend between the tubes the length of the inner tube.
The accompanying vention applied to the ventilation of a sewer. Figure 1 is a section and Fig. 2 a plan partly insection. i
p A is a sewer leading into a depositingtank B to which is connected a shaft C having at its top two tubes D, E, the tube E being in one piece with the shaft C, the lower end of the tube D being surrounded by a trough F. At the top of the tubes D, E, are flanges G, H, for directing the air into the spaces between the tubes, and the space between the topics of this; patent may be obtained for drawings show the in-' Specification 01 Letters Patent. PifljQllijQdl Apr, 341 fg ffi. Applicationfiled May 12, 191?; Serial No. 168,183. a
flanges and the tubes is divided into four parts by partitions I. sewer A is a shaft J having at its top two tubes K, L, the tube L being in one piece Connected to the I air entering the pipe J passes down into the sewer pipe A, where it commingles with the sewer gases, carrying them upward through the pipe C. The air entering the tube E is deflected upwardly through the tube D, by the trough F, thereby producing a suction or draft, andcausing the air to commingle with and draw the sewer gases upwardly through the pipe 0, and discharging them at the top of the tube D.
What I claim is:-
In a structure to be ventilated, an uptake shaft connected to the structure, said uptake shaft having a top consisting of two co-axial tubes, a trough surrounding the lower end of the inner tube, flanges on the upper ends of the tubes and partitions extending between the flanges and between the tubes, and an intake shaft connected to the structure, said intake shaft having a top consisting of two coaxial tubes, flanges on the upper ends of the tubes and partitions extending between the flanges and between the tubes.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have signed my name this 23rd day of April, 1917.
WILLIAM BELL.
