PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER WILLIAM STEWART, OF GLASGOW, SCOTLAND.
SYSTEM OF VENTILATION.
Application filed November 20, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER WILLIAM STEWART, a subject of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Glasgow, Scotland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Systems of Ventilation, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved system of ventilation, and more particularly to a system of ventilation for ships.
Characteristic of the invention is the feature that fresh air delivered by a fan is utilized to induce the discharge of foul air.
The figure of the accompanying drawing illustrates diagrammatically by way of example one suitable arrangement according to the invention An arrangement shown comprises a fan 1 (or several fans) of which the intake side is open to the atmosphere and the discharge side is connected to a pipe 2 terminating in a nozzle 3 fitted to what is termed an air eductor 4 serving for the discharge of foul air into the atmosphere.
The eductor (or each such eductor) extends from a compartment 5 or the like in which is fitted piping 6 having air openings 7, as shown, said compartment having an air inlet 8. The eductor i which is connected to the piping 6 is constructed as a double cone in the contracted region of which is located the nozzle 3, the flow of fresh air Specification of Letters latent.
Patented Sept. 20, 1921.
Serial No. 202,944..
through which induces an additional vol- In practice part only of the fresh air dis- 7 charged by the fan may be led through the pipe 2.
What I claim is In combination, a compartment having an a r inlet, piping in said compartment having air openings, an air eductor constituted by a double truncated cone connected to said piping within said compartment, said eductor projecting from said compartment, a-
nozzle coaxial with said eductor, said nozzle located adjacent to the plane of truncation of said eductor and directed away from said compartment, and a fan having its intake side exterior to said compartment and its discharge side connected to said nozzle.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALEXANDER WILLIAM STEWART. Vitnesses:
