T all whom lt may concern Be it known that I, Lewis KIDD, citizen of the United States, residing at Bloomfield, in the county of Greene and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and usew fnl improvements in Smoke-Consumers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in waste conveying systems and the object of my inventionl is to provide a system which may be used in factories, mills and the like for conveying smoke from the stacks and disposing of the same.
A further object of my invention is to provide a system in which the smoke is conveyed through the action of air forced through conveyer pipes or tubes the continnal draft of air also furnishing a forced draft for the furnace or the like.
A further object of my invention is to so ar ange the system that the smoke may be conveyed any desired distance by the employment of auxiliary blowers positioned at spaced intervals along the conveyor pipe. And a still further object of my invention to lead the smoke into a sewer pipe and to provide means for forcing the smoke through the sewer pipe.
lith these and other objects in view, my invention will be more fully described, illustratcd in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically pointed out in the claims which are attached to and form a part of this application.
The drawing is an elevational view, partially in section, showing my improved waste handling system employed as a smoke consumer.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
My invention is intended primarily as a smoke consumer and the system when so employed is preferably connected between the stack of the furnace 11 and a sewer pipe 12 through which the smoke is to be passed. liVhen so employed, a pipe 13 made up of any suitable number of sections according to the length and direction in which it must pass, is connected by one end to the stack l0 of the furnace, extends through the wall. of the building and is connected by its other end to a T-branch 14 of the sewer pipe l2. and 1G which may be of any suitable type ot construction and which are driven by mo tors lT, the motors being supported upon suitable brackets 1S or within housings 19, as preferred. lhe t'ans may be driven by these motors either by means of a belt 20, trained over pulleysl 9i and 22 of the motor and fan shafts respectively, or by means of the same belt, trained over the pulley of the motor and a pulley 52B of a shaft Q-t which passes into the pipe 1B and carries a bevel gear Q5 meshing with a bevel gear 2G carried by the fan shaft. As many of these blowers may be provided as found desirable to create a `suliicient draft through the pipe l?) and it will of course be apparent that this draft, because of its suction, forms in etl'ect a forced draft for the furnace itself.
The smoke upon entering the sewer pipe l2 immediately becomes cooled and anv solid particles of soot or other foreign matug ter settle in the pipes and are washed through the same while the gases themselves also pass through the pipe. l ln order to in sure the ready passing ot the gases through the sewer pipe, the latter is preferably provided at spaced intervals with inspirator' tubes 27 extending from motor operated blowers 28, the free ends of the tubes 27 being directed toward the lower end of the pipe 19.. The blowers QS are preferably mounted in housings E29 positioned in the ground above the pipe 1Q and extending by their upper ends above the ground level, being there provided with ventilator caps 30 spaced above the upper ends of the housings to permit an inrush of air to the blowers.
The above described system forms an exceptionally etl'ectivc smoke consumer in that it also forms a forced draft for the t'urnace. It will of course be understood that I do 'not wish in any way to limit myself to the specific details of construction illustrated in the drawings and above described as minor changes may at any time be made, if desired, without in the slightest degree departing from the spirit of my invention.
It will further be understood that a single conveying and discharge pipe may be connected by a number of draft pipes to a nuinber of furnace stacks and that when so arranged the system will operate as effectively as when connected to but a single furnace.
Having thus described the invention,wl1at is claimed as new is:
1. In a smoke disposal system, the combieach of said housings, an inspirator tub-e leadin from each blower into the sewer D pipe with its free end directed toward JElie dischai e end of said 31 e and means for conducting smoke from a stack to the sewer pipe, said ineens including smoke conveying pipe leading' from the steek to the sewer pipe, and blowers interposed in said sinoke conveying pipe.
2. In a smoke disposal system, the combination with a sewer pipe, of a plurality of housings located in the ground at spaced intervals along said pipe, e blower positioned in each of the housings and arranged to force air through the sewer pipe, and means for conducting smoke from the stack to the sewer pipe.
