Abstract

5003. Williams, C. R. Fleming-. Feb. 27. Floats for aerial machines. -The floats of hydro-aeroplanes are furnished on their undersides with planes 3, 7, hinged at their forward ends and resiliently supported at the after end. To maintain the stability as the planes rise out of the water during travel, the after-ends of the planes are wider than the forward ends, and the edge in plan is curved either concavely or convexly with respect to the hinge 2. The spring device may be an ordinary spring, or may comprise rubber strands or a leaf spring across the top of the float.
