Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and metal springs other than helical and volute springs.-Relates to various hub and rim attachments for spokes formed of two curved members and having the shape of an elongated ellipse. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each spoke member 3 has a tapered head 4. The two heads have registering grooves 5 to receive a transverse bolt 6 passing through two fixed hub flanges. The felloe 7 has a rib with recesses 11, Fig. 3, over the whole of which fits a two-part metal channel 10, Fig. 6, with corresponding depressions 11. Each recess has bevelled ends, and the two ends 12 of each spoke, which may abut, Fig. 3, or overlap, Fig. 4, are secured by a U-shaped plate 13 fixed by a transverse bolt 15. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the inner part of the spoke is continuous and fits around a wedge-shaped block 18 secured in the hub by a transverse bolt 19. In the form shown in Figs. 10 and 12, the sub-members 35, 36 are separate, are formed near the hub with undulations 39, and terminate in converging parts with feet lying under the block 26. The hub 21 is formed with a flange 22 carrying pins 25 which hold the blocks and enter apertures in the detachable plate 24. Successively-reduced screw-threaded parts 30, 32 carry two nuts securing the plate 24. With a chain drive, the chain box 28 is secured by bolts 29 passing through extensions 27 of the blocks fitting against the curves of the spokes. The spoke members may, in addition, be separately secured to the blocks by pins lying circumferentially of the hub. Fig. 14 shows a rim attachment in which the two ends of each spoke, after being broadly curved, lie parallel and are screw-threaded. A nut 47 on the outside of the metal rim secures the spoke, and there may be another nut 43 on the other side of the rim. In the form shown in Fig. 17, the two overlapping ends lie within a clamp 56 independently secured to the face of the rim. A radial bolt 58 also passes through clamp, ends, and rim. Fig. 21 shows a form in which the outer end of the spoke is a continuous loop secured in a shallow recess by a U-shaped clamp 77.
