Abstract
4594. Drysdale, H., and Jahn, F. Feb. 22. Winding webs.-A device for tensioning a web of paper or the like fed from a reel comprises a pair of fixed side frames d bolted to the machine frame and a pair of pivoted side frames e, each frame being formed with a series of projections and recesses, and carrying round bars d<3>, e<5> between the projections on each pair. The pivoted frames are accurately and sensitively adjustable to cause their bars to interengage more or less between the bars of the fixed frames to vary the tension on the web b* passing between them by means of a hand-wheel g<4> on a shaft g<2> carrying a worm g<3> gearing with a rock-shaft f carrying levers f<1> connected to the movable jaws e by links e<2>. The wormshaft g<2> is preferably provided with a pointer g<5> traversing a divided scale g<6> so that the tensioning-bars may be accurately set to their former adjustment after being temporarily separated.
