Abstract
29,467. Hegi, C. G. Brodmann-. Dec. 21. Stocks and dies.-In a die-stock of the type in which lubricant is supplied to the work by a plunger mounted in the handle, the oil is transferred to the work through a valved passage. In the form shown in Fig. 3 in which the dies are mounted in a ratchet-wheel 6, surrounded by a ring 1 to which an extension 3 is attached, the extension is provided with a hole 46 closed by screws 47, 48 and containing a springÀpressed valve 45 for separating the passage 43, which is connected with the work by a groove 42 in the ratchetwheel and passages 41, 40 in disks 2, 39, attached thereto, from the passage 43<1> in communication with the hollow handle 5, Fig. 4, containing the oil. The annular disk 39 is tapered to fit in the disk 2, and separate disks 39 may be used for each size of thread to be cut. The handle is filled with oil on removing the screw 47 by suction produced by withdrawing the plunger 38 by rotating the nipple extension 33 of the handle, which is prevented from moving axially and engages a pair of telescopic screws. The nipple is threaded to engage the hollow screw spindle 360, which in turn engages a screwed rod 37 attached to the plunger. Stops 361, 369 respectively on the screws 360 and 37 limit the motions thereof. Rotation of the plunger is prevented by projections thereon engaging grooves in the handle 5. In a modification, Fig. 7, without a ratchet-wheel, the passages 41 in the plate 2 are in direct engagement with the passage 43 in the handle. In another form the oil may be conveyed to the work from the valve through a bent pipe 60, Fig. 9, having a nozzle 61. The stock may be guided on the work by jaws mounted in a plate 50 connected to the ratchet-wheel or stock by bolts 53. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) describes also a stock and die, Fig. 2 (Cancelled) which may cut right or left hand threads, and is operated by spring-pressed pawls 8, 9, which are either held in the position shown, in which case the handle is locked to the ratchetwheel 6, so as to rotate the stock continuously, or in which either of the pawls may be put out of engagement by turning a cam 17 so that the ratchet-wheel may be intermittently rotated in either direction. The dies are of wedge formation, the back of one die having helical teeth engaging a screw 21 which is rotated by a toothed wheel 22 through a hand-operated worm 23. In order to provide a quick opening and closing of the dies after cutting, the screw 21 is axially movable by a fork 27 which is mounted on a hand-rotated eccentric 28. The dies are locked in their cutting position by a spring-pressed bolt 30 having a projection 31 engaging a groove in the eccentric. The guide-plate 57 may be attached to the stock, Fig. 11 (Cancelled), by shouldered bolts 56 passing through holes in the stock and fixed by nuts. This. subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
