Card and like stands.-A method of attaching a leg or support to a photograph or like frame, or other article so as to allow the leg to be folded flat against the article and also to be locked at a suitable inclination when supporting the article, consists in providing upon the article or upon the leg, a sleeve or socket having a longitudinal slot or gap which is adapted to be engaged by a stud or projection on the other part so as to lock the leg in its supporting-position, the stud being disengaged from the locking-slot when the leg is to be folded flat by moving the leg in the direction of its axis of rotation. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the sleeve 2 is attached to the back 3 of a photograph frame and is provided with a transverse slot 7 having a longitudinal locking-portion 6. A stud 5 on the leg 1 engages the transverse portion of the slot when the leg is folded flat, but is passed into the locking-portion 6 when the frame is to be supported in an upright position. In a modification, the stud 5 may be replaced by a stop formed by bending the upper extremity of the leg 1. In another modification, the sleeve with the locking-slot is formed at the upper end of the leg 1, and the stud 5 is carried by a stem or shank attached to the frame. In a further modification, ss shown in Fig. 8, the leg 1 has two horizontally disposed free ends engaging within an horizontal sleeve 2, which is provided at one end with a locking-slot 6 for the stud 5 attached to one of the free ends of the leg 1. When it is desired to fold the leg flat, the leg is slid horizontally so as to pass the stud 5 out of the slot 6, wbereby the leg is left free to rotate. The stud may be brought into engagement with the locking-slot by the action of a spring.
