To all whom it may concern:

citizen- 0f the United States, and a resident of Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Picture-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to hangers or holders for picture frames, mirrors, ornamental panels, or the like, and has particular refer" ence to holders or hangers of this character that are adapted to support the picture frame without cords, wires, screw eyes, or the like, being attached thereto.

Another object of the invention is to provide a holder that is adapted to be connected to the side edges of the upper portion of the fram in such a manner as to be securely held in place and so securely support the picture in practice.

l/Vith the foregoing; and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details ofconstruction disclosed or suggested herein still for the purpose of illustrating a practical "embodiment thereof reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in. which. like reference characters designate the same part in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation showing my improved holder in cooperation with a picturn or picture frame.

Referring now more particularly-to the drawings. I show at 10 a frame which Will be understood to typify any device such as a picture. mirror. or the like, to be supported as by hanging from a nail on the wall or, the like or as an easel, the side rails 11 of the frame bein; provided with horizontal coaxial sockets 12 which may belined if desired with metal bushings 13. These sockets 12 may be located at any desired elevation along the sides of the picture.

The holder may be made of any suitable material such sheet metal. celluloid. or the like, that maybe suitably ornamented or decorated as may be found desirable. As indicated, however, the holder comprises two main. portions 14 and 1.5 having a hollow rivet l6 connecting them and adapting the two main portions to pivot scissor fashion not far remote from their upper ends. v

Said upper ends 17 are provided with interlocking hooks 18 overlapping each other in a vertical direction, while the end portions above the hollow rivet 16 are curved away from each other forming an eye or loop 19 adapted to be placed over a nail 20 or the like.

The main lower portions of the members 14 and 15 constitute divergent legs terminating at their lower ends in inwardly directed spurs 21 adapted to project into the sockets 12 or bushings 13, the main portions of the legs being longer and flexible enough for these spurs to he sprung or snapped into said sockets. "When. however, the device is in holding position there 1s no practical pos- ,sibility of the picture becoming disconnected therefrom. As shown best in Fig. 4 the spurs 21 are formed by slit-ting the metal of the legs at 22 forming freeedgcs 23 which are rolled into substantially cylindrical form. As suggested in. Figs. 1 and 4 the legs -may be shaped and otherwise ornamented to sim ulate streamers if desired, but with reference to the ornamental appearance I have filed concurrently herewith a design application.

The hollow rivet 16 constitutes, in addition to the means for securing the main or leg portions of the holder together, a means to readily attach any suitable ornament'such as indicated at 24. lhis ornament is pro-- vided with a rearwardly extending split shank 25 having a rounded point adapted to be forced through the rivet 16 where it will be held automatically by its resiliency.

- W hen the holder is detached from the picture frame the interlocking joint at 18 may readily be opened and the two portions 17 may be separated at the joint 18 by swinging the leg portions upward from each other slightly and thereafter the device as a whole may be folded with the leg portions in close parallelism for storage or transportation purposes. The ornament 24 obviously may be removed for this purpose by simply slipping it from the hollow rivet 16. For use as an easel the holder may swing bodily as a unit around the horizontal axis of the two spurs so as to bring the head or loop portion thereof down into position to rest upon the table or other support, the spurs still being .as already descfibed.
