Abstract

28,640. Schimmel, F. Dec. 12. Vibration - dampers. - Relates to shock-absorbers, particularly applicable to vehiclesprings, and of the type in which a friction joint is mounted at the elbow of a pair of toggle-levers, one of the levers being formed in two parts which are pressed together by suitable adjusting- means at the joint so as to vary the initial resistance. The invention consists in providing additional adjusting-means between the ends of the two-part arm. Fig.. 1 shows a friction toggle joint mounted between the spring and frame of a vehicle, the two-part arm 9 of the joint and its connexion with the friction mechanism being shown in detail in Fig. 2. the arm 2 and its connexions being shown in Fig. 3. The arm 2 carries a disk 1 with an inclined recess 3 on one side and a cam surface 4 on the other side. The arm 9 has one part in the form of a spring bearing upon a disk 6 engaging with the recess 3 and connected with a projection 7 on the disk by means of a recess 8, the other part of the arm 9 being provided with inclined surfaces 15 bearing upon the cam surface 4 during the opening and closing of the joint, so as to alter the force exerted by the spring arm on the friction mechanism and thereby vary the frictional force. The parts of the frictional mechanism are connected to a cover 16 by an adjustable bolt 17 which also serves to vary the frictional force as also does a bolt 18 connecting the two parts of the arm 9.
