Lamps forming line of light.-In trough reflectors for lamps for lighting shop windows, book shelves, &c., the reflecting surface comprises the combination of a series of curved surfaces arranged symmetrically in respect of the vertical axis of the light sources so that the light shall be distributed or concentrated in any vertical plane in such a manner that in any area to be illuminated by the reflector there is no variation of illumination in intermediate areas in the direction of the line of light sources. The reflector A, Fig. 1, is designed to give a wide distribution of light in a vertical plane when the centre of the filament is in the position shown, but the light is less widely distributed when the lamp is raised so that its centre is at F. When the illumination is to be concentrated in the vertical plane, a reflector A shaped as in Fig. 3 is employed. The reflectors may be placed above a diffusing-plate in the ceiling of a room or above the window case, and a portion of one side may be removed for illuminating shop windows. The Specification contains diagrams showing the curvature of the reflectors.
