Abstract
26,664. Prestige, J. T., and Mead, A. A. Nov. 20. [Addition to 713/12.] Ventilators, terminal. -In ventilators for railway and 6ther vehicles in which louvers and hit-and-miss slides are simultaneously operated, as described in the parent Specification, each louver is operated by a pin on the hit-and-miss slide, and a sheet-metal casing, anti-vibration devices, and a protective cover are provided. The louvers 8 have slotted arms 15 engaging pins 16 on the hit-and-miss slide 4. The arms may form extensions of perforated lugs, which are cut and bent to receive the pivot pins 10. The casing is a sheet-metal box with one side missing and the opposite side 7 slotted to form the fixed member of the hit-and-miss ventilator, against which the slide 4 is retained by rollers 37 and by curved plates 38 which also prevent the collection of matter in the corners of the casing. Spring washers 33 &c. may be provided round the pivot pins 10 to prevent rattling. A cover 40 may be carried by pins 41 and be opened with the ventilator, against the action of springs 42, by rollers 44 carried by lugs 43 on the end louvers. Cinders &c. entering the ventilator are discharged through apertures 34 in the bottom of the casing on to inclined surfaces 36 deflecting them outwards.
