Abstract
24,378. Dunlop, J. Oct. 25. Radial-flow type.-A combined inward-andoutward flow turbine comprises a rotor a situated between two sets of guide-blades b and adapted to be continuously rotated by a pulsating column of water. Working-fluid supply.-The pulsation of the water column is effected by an explosion apparatus comprising two cylinders A provided with air-inlet valves C, buoyant exhaust valves E, fuel pumps F, and hot ignition bulbs B. The fuel pumps are operated by plungers G communicating with the explosion chambers. Where gaseous fuel is used, the plungers G are used to effect the ignition. The explosions take place alternately in the two cylinders, thereby causing the water column to flow backwards and forwards through the turbine. In a modification, the invention is applied to an axial-flow turbine, and the inlet and exhaust valves are chanically operated. Reversing. - For reversing purposes, two wheels with oppositely curved vanes are provided, and the rings c carrying the guide-blades bare revoluble so that either wheel may be rendered inoperative.
