Abstract

22,665. Warwick Machinery Co., [General Electric Co.]. Oct. 4. Regulating mixedpressure turbines. Live steam is supplied from a pipe 18 to admission valves 1, while lowpressure steam is supplied from a pipe 8 provided with a throttle valve actuated by a rack 9, both high and low pressure valves being operated in the usual manner by a servo-motor 2 controlled by a speed governor 5. The pilot valve 3 of the servo-motor is coupled to a floating lever 4, one end of which is actuated by the governor, while the other end is attached to the piston-rod 6 by a lever 7, forming a follow-up device. In the low-pressure main 8 is located a float 11 connected to a lever 15, pivoted at 16, and provided with an adjustable weight 15<a>, the other end of the lever carrying a link 17 connected to the lever 7. This device forms a flow-responsive governor by which variations in the flow of low-pressure steam effect the operation of the pilot valve 3 independently of the speed governor. The invention is particularly applicable to turbines driving alternating-current generators connected in parallel to other generators.
