Abstract

22,151. Leclercq, C., and BartholomÚ, M. Sept. 30. No Patent, granted (Sealing fee not paid). Composite and helical springs; connexions, attachments, and adjustments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.-Relates to shock-absorbers of the kind employed between the ends of laminated vehicle springs and the spring or dumb-iron on the vehicle frame, and in which the shock-absorbing springs are surrounded by a casing connected by ears to the frame member and act between the top of the casing and an abutment carried by bars depending from the end of the laminated spring and slotted to form guides for the frame member. The invention consists in providing slots in the lower end of the casing which form guides for the bottom abutment of the springs. Fig. 1 shows helical springs 6, 7 of unequal strength mounted between a casing 11 connected by ears 10 with the dumb-iron 2 and an abutment 5 pivotally mounted in rods 3 suspended from the end of the laminated spring 1. Slots are provided to allow for motion of the member 5 in the casing 11. The pin 9 carried by the dumb-iron is guided in clots 8 in the rods 3 by means of replaceable soft metal antifriction disks 19 and slippers 20. Side motion is taken up by helical spring washers 18, 23, mounted upon the members 5 and 9. A rod attached to the casing 11 passes through the abutment 5, and a spring 17 is provided to take up the recoil.
