20,158. Smart, E. H. Sept. 4. Envelopes.-The usual closing-flap b is provided with an extension c adapted to bear a message, postscript, name and address, or advertisement, and to be secured to the outside of the flap b by a gummed edge c<2>, or by a tongue c' and slot b<1>. The extension c may be opened and the message &c. read without opening the envelope. The flap b is provided with a small flap B cut out of the extension c and adapted to be secured by wax or a wafer. For long messages, a larger extension, adapted to fold, is provided. In a modification, the closing-flap b is as large as the envelope, and the extension c is folded over and secured to the face of the envelope.
