Latches, sliding.-In a mortice fastening for railway and road vehicle and other doors and windows, the latch bolt 4 is provided with a rack 6 and is actuated by a weighted toothed segment 7 having a finger-piece 9 working in a recessed plate 13 let into the face of the door &c. The fastening is also adapted for use on shutters and trapdoors.
