Abstract

17,428. Rigby, T., and Wetcarbonising, Ltd. July 26. Exhaust, treating.- A wet-carbonizing plant is driven by a steamengine, the exhaust being used to heat parts of the plant such as the carbonizers in which it is condensed, and subsequently being fed to the boilers or used for heating the feed-water. In the arrangement shown, an engine a receives steam at 300 lb. per square inch from boilers fired with gas made from the wet-carbonized peat, and the exhaust steam at 190 lb. per square inch passes through a pipe c to the jacket of carbonizers b, excess being conveyed to other apparatus, such as a heater g for gas-producer &c. blast, a briquet press h, and low-pressure engines e. The exhaust from these is condensed in heating other parts of the plant, such as evaporators for ammonium sulphate, Schulze drying-apparatus for peat, and pre-heaters for the furnace-air supply; or that from the press h may be delivered to a gas-producer. Specifications 17,610/11, 19,330/11, [both in Class 55(i), Coking &c.], and 24,748/11, [Class 50, Fuel, Manufacture of], are referred to.
