Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for utilizing the exhaust steam from steam power plants.

The invention relates to steam power plants, the efficiency of which one through
Seeks to increase the heating of the air for the boiler combustion by means of the exhaust steam from the engine.

According to the present invention, a further increase in the efficiency is achieved in that the excess of the exhaust steam from the engine, which is used to heat the
Air or the fuel is not necessary for the combustion, is used in another engine or in another stage of the same engine. The feed water is expediently preheated in a known manner by the exhaust gases.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the steam first works in the high pressure cylinder of a compound machine or in the high pressure stage of a turbine and part of the exhaust steam, which advantageously has a higher voltage than the atmosphere, is fed into a heating device for the air or for the fuel of the boiler. The exhaust steam that does not get into the heating device is fed into the low-pressure cylinder of the compound machine or into the low-pressure stage of the turbine. The entire exhaust steam can also be brought into the heating device and the non-condensed part of it can be used for work in the low-pressure steam engines. The exhaust steam from the low-pressure machine is condensed in a known manner in the condenser.

It is readily apparent that the steam can be used in separate steam engines, for example in a piston engine and an exhaust steam turbine.

The condensate from the heater is returned to the boiler. If saturated steam is used, the amount of condensate increases and only lubricants that cannot damage the boiler should be used, as the removal of lubricants from the condensate is difficult.

When the steam power plant is operated in the manner described, a high thermal efficiency is achieved.

If the voltage of the steam fed into the heating device is increased, the temperature to which the air or fuel is heated is also increased, as is the temperature and possibly the amount of condensate.

The feed water is preheated in a known way by the exhaust gases from the furnace.
