Rope grips.-A rope jockey is arranged to be moved laterally on to the moving rope and then to swing about a shaft parallel to the forked jaw member so as to kink the rope. The shaft 3 carrying the forked jaw 2 is mounted in vertically-slotted bearings 5 in the vehicle frame 1, the shaft being arranged to move axially when it is required to engage or to disengage the clip. When the jaw 2 is moved laterally to its full extent, it disengages itself from a slot 9 and is then free to swing about the shaft 3, thus kinking the rope. The rope may be prevented from moving laterally by fixed abutments 10, 11 near the attaching and detaching points, or by spring pins extending downwards from the bearing-bracket 5. The outer ends of the shaft 3 have vertical bevelled faces 13, 14 adapted to engage bevelled surfaces arranged at the side of the track so as to engage and disengage the clip automatically.
