Shirts etc.; button-holes; fastening wearing- apparel.-To enable nether garments, such as trousers, to be supported from the shirt &c., the shirt is formed or provided, preferably at the sides, with a number of rows of buttonholes, one hole above another, and the trousers &c. are provided with suitably-located buttons, which can be buttoned into one or other of the button-holes in the respective rows. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, one side 9<a> of a button-hole strip 2 is sewn to the shirt by stitching 5, and the shirt is folded at 6, 7 to form a pleat extending preferably to the arm-pit, the pleat being prevented from unfolding by the line of stitching 8. The side 9 of the button-hole strip may have extended ends 11, which may be folded across the side 9<a>, as shown in Fig. 1, and stitched in position; or the upper end 11, instead of being folded across, may extend up to the arm-pit and be held by the stitching 8. When the shirt is made of patterned material, the side 2 is preferably covered with a strip 10, Fig. 2, of the same design. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, a reinforcing-strip 17 is secured to one side of the shirt, and a rectangular strip 19 is stitched on the other side by a seam close to the edges of a slit 20 cut through the three layers, after which the free marginal portions of the strip 19 are drawn through the slit and stitched down, the button-holes being then completed by cords or bars 22.
