Cooling; cup-leather packing.-The plunger b of a gas-compressor works out of contact with its cylinder, and is packed by a washer c and cupleather d held in place by an outer box e. Cooling-liquid circulates through a chamber in the box e, and leaves the box by a pipe l, which rises to a level above that of the packing c, d, in order to keep this constantly moist. The cooling-liquid is discharged into a separator p, leakage gas being returned to the suction line by a pipe o.
