Abstract
11,240. Turnbull, A. P. May 11. Windmills with rotating head-frames, conducting electricity from.-A windmill is provided with an electric conduit concentric with the axis of the pivoted head-frame and having external slip-rings or collectors arranged to make contact with fixed collecting-brushes so that the leads from a dynamo driven by the mill and carried on the rotating head can be passed through the conduit and be connected to the slip-rings carried thereby. The slip-rings 70 may be arranged either at the top or bottom of the conduit 69, and a hooded cap 55 is placed over the upper end of the conduit, perforations 68 being formed in its side to admit the dynamo leads 67. The dynamo 43 may be supported on bearers 44 secured to the ball-bearing frame 21, and the drive is taken from the wind-wheel to the generator through chain and sprocket gearing 45, 46. The speed of the mill may be automatically controlled as described in Specification 8789/12, or the dynamo itself may be of the self-governing type.
