Abstract

9282. Eisner, F. A. April 19. Movable-abutment type.-An outwardly-sliding-abutment type of engine has working spaces constituted by recesses in the periphery of the drum, which has inlet and exhaust spaces connected to the chambers. The rotor and stator are concentric, enabling the motor to be used for driving automobile wheels. Either part may be stationary, but the engine is described with an inner stator 1 divided into inlet and exhaust chambers 3, 4 connected to centrally disposed conduits, and to inlet and exhaust ports 9, 10 of recessed chambers 8 having connected shallow recesses 8<1>. In these recesses work spring - pressed abutments 13 comprising two independently pressed members 13<1>, 13<11>, the latter being recessed to form a lubricating- chamber. The double springs 15 press inwards the adjacent halves of the abutment and pass over the bolts 11 connecting the halves of the rotor. The driving-medium, which may be compressed air, acts first by pressure and then by expansion, the inlet being cut off by the succeeding abutment. The rotor 2 is supported in ball bearings, and felt packing - rings are provided. The space between the walls 12, 12<1> of the rotor is filled with grease. The engine may be driven to act as a pump. The motor may operate by pressure only, the recesses 8<1> being omitted.
