Abstract
19128335. Dufour, L. May 5, 1911, [Convention date]. Springs, arrangement of and mounting undercarriages on.-Relates to auxiliary spring suspension devices for vehicles, of the kind which act in such a way as to resist deflexion of the usual laminated springs when the normal distance between the axle and frame increases or diminishes, and consists in providing a rod one end of which is pivoted to the axle, the other end being pivoted to the end of a rod connected with a piston working in a chamber against the action of a helical spring. A spring chamber may be arranged on one or both sides of the rod connected with the axle. Fig. 2 shows one construction in which helical springs g carried by the frame member k have their movable abutments h connected by links f with a link c pivoted to the axle spring w. The vertical force transmitted to the rod c from the springs g, which is zero for the normal load when the links f are horizontal, is added to the force of the main spring w for upward movements of the rod c, and subtracted for downward movements. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which only one helical spring g is employed and is arranged vertically, the rod c being connected with the end of the link f through a bell-crank r.
