Connexions and attachments s applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.- Relates to shock-absorbing shaft couplings of the type in which driving and driven shafts are coupled by a nut which is slidably mounted on one shaft and is engaged by a screw on the other shaft, the movement of the nut being opposed by a spring. According to the invention, the nut is contained within the spring so that a long spring may be used. Fig. 2 shows the application of the shockabsorber between shafts a, b forming part of the driving-gear of a motorcar. The driven shaft b has a portion b<1> of square section which rotates with, and serves as a guide for, a nut e engaging with a corresponding screw f on the drive-shaft a. A spring d is mounted between a shoulder e<2> on the nut and the casing c<2> so as to be compressed when the drive is in action and the rotation of the screw f has caused movement of the nut e upon the portion b<1> of the shaft b. The outer casing engages with the squared portion of the shaft b and is rotated thereby.
