Abstract

4908. Boult, A. J., [Soc. Anon. des Brevets Magnee]. Feb. 27. Smoke, consuming; steam, supplying.-Smoke from a furnace is moistened, mixed with air and superheated, and passed to the furnace ash-pit. Means are also provided for supplying superheated steam direct to the ash-pit. As shown in the Figure, smoke passes from the chimney 7 to a moistener 14, through which it is drawn by a fan 10 having an adjustable air inlet 19 on the suction side. The moistened smoke and air passes to chambers 26 and through superheating-tubes 31, 31<1> to the ash-pit, which is divided by a partition 3 into compartments 4, 4<1>. If desired the mixture may be discharged through valve-controlled conduits 23, 23<1> direct to the ash-pit. Steam from a pipe 27 may be led direct through superheating-tubes 32, 32<1> to the compartments 4, 4<1>.
