Shallow-overhungblade fans; casings.- In a centrifugal fan, the impeller is so arranged in relation to the casing that the air which passes through centripetally, or axially along the negative portion of the blade, is mainly taken from the suction side. In this way re-circulation from the pressure side is avoided. Fig. 10 shows an impeller of the type described in Specification 4609/98, [Class 8, Air and gases, Compressing &c.], arranged in relation to the casing Z so that air flows inwardly through the ends b of the blades, and is thrown outwards at the ends a. Double-inlet impellers may be employed, and the arrangement of casing and impeller may be modified. Specifications 7050/04 and 21,891/04, [both in Class 8, Air and gases, Compressing &c.], are referred to.
