Clutches, friction.-Relates to segmental clutches applicable to motor-cars &c., and operated by axially-sliding wedges, the operating-collar engaging a brake surface to stop the driven part on unclutching. The clutch segments u, Fig. 2, slide in holes s, in a ring n secured to the driven hub 9, and between an outer ring l and removable plates v, Fig. 5. Wedges 25 pivoted on the operating- collar 12 engage rollers 7 on the segments and disengage the segments from the driving-drum e against the action of springs 1. At the end of its travel, a brake surface 13 on the collar 12 engages a fixed surface 28 and stops the hub 9 and driven shaft 30 to which it is secured.
