Abstract

5524. Kr³ger, A., and Eppinga, J. March 7. Brakes; driving-mechanism.-In a free-wheel and back-pedalling brake mechanism for cycles &c., rollers, balls, &c. 7 transmit the drive from the sprocket-wheel 5 to the hub 4, while on backpedalling, rollers 15, mounted in the recesses 14 of blocks 11 pivoted upon an anchored arm 9, jam between the sprocket-wheel flange 8 and the blocks, which are thus pressed inwards into contact with the hub to brake the wheel. Springs 21 in the hub and the blocks assist the motion of the clutch rollers, and springs 22 return the blocks to normal position. The blocks 11 bear at their rear ends in saddle-shaped recesses in ring segments 10.
