[Addition to 29,758/09.] Turning nuts.-A modified form of the washer-turning machine described in the parent Specification has means whereby the mandrel spindle is rotated as well as the chuck spindle. The chuck spindle a has a pulley c on it driven by a belt from a pulley d on a countershaft e, this shaft having another pulley f on its other end adapted to drive through belting a pulley g on the mandrel shaft h at the same speed as the chuck spindle. The mandrel spindle is mounted in a sleeve i in a bearing of the machine, the sleeve i having a cam-surface i' on its front end adapted to engage dogs k on a collar l on the spindle, so that when the sleeve is partially rotated by the rod i<3> the mandrel spindle is pushed forward to engage the chuck spindle. The sleeve is spring-retracted, and a ball bearing m is interposed between the collar and the mandrel n. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the pulleys q, r on the respective spindles are driven at approximately the same speed directly from a power shaft, but in this case the cam-surface is carried directly by the end of the rod t.
