[Cognate Application, 11,999/09.] D r i l l i n g .- A drilling or like machine wherein the spindle is driven through a key which allows longitudinal motion of the spindle, the f e e d being given by a rack and pinion on a feed sleeve, is provided with means whereby the pull of the belt and the axial thrust are relieved. The driving-pulley a is mounted between the brackets d, e, of the machine frame, each bracket carrying a ball bearing b of the annular type. A ball bearing i is used to centre the top of the spindle, and a ball bearing m in the feed sleeve centres the lower end of the spindle, while bearings k, n take the thrust of the drill.
