Axle-bearing guiding-arrangements.-In an axle-box for railway vehicles, pivoted on a vertical axis to enable roller bearings to be used with advantage, the pivots consist of a hemispherical projection 7, Fig. 2, on the clamp 5 of the vehicle spring 6, and a fixed cylindrical pin 3 supported on a cross-piece 9 between depending guard-plates 10, 11, the axle-box 1 being provided with sockets to receive the pivots. Semi-cylindrical lugs 34 on the sides of the axlebox engage cylindrical seatings 35 mounted between the guard-plates 10, 11, so as to permit the axle-box to turn on its pivot to a limited extent. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which, in order to permit lateral displacement of the axle-box, the sockets 42, 44 for the pivots are elliptical, the major axes of the ellipses being in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. With this arrangement the axle-box can accommodate itself to the axle when inclined to the body of the vehicle in rounding curves. The side lugs 46 are curved and engage cylindrical faces on plates 47 yielding against springs 52; the springs and plates are mounted between side cheeks 50 bolted between the guard-plates.
